Hard to believe we are now in the fourth quarter of 2023! The year is going by quickly.

I held my fist Saturday morning coffee on September 23rd and the Tahoe Natural Café, which is at the corner of Steamboat Parkway and Veterans Parkway. About 25 constituents were there and we had a great discussion for about an hour and a half. My next coffee will be October 21st at 9:00am at the same location. I will be sending a separate text announcement closer to the date. Hope to see you there.
Â
Please save the date for my first constituent fundraiser. It will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023. I will follow up later this month with more details and an RSVP request. Hope to see as many of you as possible.

We are five months away from candidate filings and eight months away from the state’s primary election in June. I appreciate everyone’s support in the last campaign and hope you are all willing to support me again. If you will put a sign in your yard, make calls, or walk neighborhoods, please let me know through the contact page on my website (DeLongForNevada.com). If you can donate to the campaign, please click the donate button below. I will continue to try and make a difference in the Nevada Legislature.

An update to the news from the Legislature. There are a number of democrats and a couple of republicans that are not running for the Assembly again this cycle. On the Democrat side Michelle Gorelow (AD 35) and Lesley Cohen (AD 21) have announced that they are not running. The rumor on the street is that Sarah Peters (AD 24) is also not running again. Sabra Newby (AD 10) will also not be running as she has accepted a position with the City of Las Vegas. It appears that Angie Taylor (AD 27) and Clara Thomas (AD 17) are running for State Senate seats and will not be returning to the Assembly. Now it appears the Selena La Rue Hatch (AD 25) will be standing for re-election. On the Republican side Heidi Kasama (AD 2) s running in the Congressional District 3 race and Richard McArthur (AD 4) is running for State Senate. The other 12 Republicans are all standing for re-election. The goal in the Assembly this campaign is to increase the number of Republican seats and thus support the Governor’s vote of the endless bad bills from the Democratic-controlled Legislature.

In news from the District, a number of you have contacted me regarding a liability insurance problem create by the Democratic-passed AB 398 from last session. The Democratic-controlled Legislative Commission, which I am a member of, met in late September to consider a Division of Insurance regulation that attempts to fix and clarify the legislative intent. The regulation passed. I am confident that a statutory change will be initiated next session to more fully address the problem. Also at that Legislative Commission hearing, a number of Secretary of State regulations were passed regarding the state’s election process. These regulations all resulted from the Democratic-passed laws from last session. I voted against all the regulations, except for the one that sets the day for the political parties to supply the name of their presidential candidate to the Secretary of State. I am in touch with the Superintendent of Washoe County School District regarding the Incline Village schools. The School District has scheduled a meeting with the Incline community to talk about options for the school on Thursday, Oct. 12. The meeting is at 6pm in the theater at Incline High School. I am in Utah that day and will not be able to attend. I will follow up with the School District. If anyone does attend, I would like to hear from you regarding the presentation and discussion.
