Hello Friends,

We have just completed week three of the 17-week long session. For this week the floor sessions have generally been short each day with the first read of bills that are introduced and then assigning them to committees for hearings. We have voted on only eight items so far in

the first three weeks, and most those votes were on resolutions and concurrent resolutions. For the first three to four weeks of the session the committees have presentations from the various state government agencies, county and local governments, and other organizations. In week three we started to have hearings on bills.

The four Governor vetoed bills (AB 218, AB 319, AB 340, and AB 383) that were placed on the clerk’s desk continue to remain on the clerk’s desk this week. As of February 21st , 90 additional bill draft requests (BDRs) were submitted to the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) bringing the total to 1,114 BDRs. Of those, 501 have been submitted as bills to either the Assembly or Senate, which is 58 more than last week. The Assembly currently has 272 bills that are in the process.

This week in the Government Affair Committee we had eight bill hearings (Assembly Bills [ABs] 72, 19, 96, 1, 27, 8, and 22) and six presentations. Of interest was AB 10, which addresses local

improvement districts for common interest

communities (HOAs) that are not in the financial position to complete the necessary repairs on their water or sewer systems. This bill was brought by the City of Henderson. AB 72 addresses issues related to notaries and document preparation services. This will was brought by the Secretary of State.

This week the Natural Resources Committee we had one bill hearing (AB 80) and three presentations. AB 80 addresses soil health and establishes the Soil Health Advisory Board within the State Conservation Commission. The board will encourage the adoption of soil health practices by agricultural producers. This bill was brought by the Joint Interim Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

This week in the Education Committee we had three bill hearings (ABs 39, 48, and 184) and three presentations. AB 184 addresses the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, a state-authorized organization that oversees interscholastic sports, principally within high schools. The bill addresses the ability of students to participate in interscholastic sports when they transfer schools. This bill was brought by Assemblywoman Nathan Anderson.

This legislative session I am honored to again serve on the Government Affairs Committee and the Natural Resources Committee. I am also on the Education Committee this session.

My office in the legislative building this session is room 4107. If you are going to be in Carson please contact my attaché, Roxanne Reichert at 775.684.8848, and schedule an appointment to come by and see me.
